Russell Barnes of St. Croix Falls WI, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020.
Russ was born on July 14, 1937 to Ruth and Floyd Barnes in Cook, MN and raised in St. Paul. He met his sweetheart and lifelong partner, RuthAnn Bergsto, in Milaca in 1955 and married in 1957. Russ and RuthAnn shared a remarkable life together spanning 65 years. They were blessed with four children; Thomas, Cindy, Melissa, and Amanda whom they lovingly raised in Shafer, MN.
Although Russ was humble and rarely boasted, he was quite the inspiring man. He was a lifelong learner and entrepreneur. His unique blend of intelligence, ambition and work ethic enabled him to experience the American Dream. From his humble beginnings as a factory laborer, he went on to co-found Century Circuits – a computer circuit board manufacturer – in the 1970’s. Starting from nothing but a dream, he and five business partners (The Century Six) successfully grew the business over the course of 10 years. Russ later sold his interest to accomplish one of his other life goals – to retire at 50 years old. After retiring, Russ was never one to sit idle. He built a new home on their property in Shafer, renovated a cabin in Siren, reinvigorated old motors and tinkered with small projects in his garage. Russ was always working on a project – and worked tirelessly until its completion. Many years, Russ and RuthAnn escaped the Minnesota winters and found adventure in Texas and Arizona. Russ also had an enduring passion for experiencing the beauty of nature. He loved to be outside. In the early years, the family often visited their “shack” in Northern Minnesota and their favorite resort on Pelican Lake. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son and exploring the woods with his daughters. In later years, Russ could often be found surrounded by grandchildren at the end of his dock on Crooked Lake, sharing his joy of fishing.
Russ was preceded in death by his son Tom, his parents and three siblings.
He is survived by his lifelong love RuthAnn; daughters Cindy (Scott), Melissa (Patrick), and Amanda (Scott); grandchildren Nicole (Neb), Bridget (Eric), Matt (Jessica), Dan (Jess), Emily, Abigail, Bethany, Jennifer, and Travis; great grandchildren Lucy, Nora, Olivia, Kayden, Xavier, and Lexi.
Some of Russ’ final words before he passed were “I think I have run a pretty good race”. We as his family would wholeheartedly agree. He was a blessing and inspiration to each one of us. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
