Larry Arlen Lofgren, age 86 of Chisago City, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 18, 2021 due to cancer.
Larry was born on March 11, 1934 to Cyrus and Elynore (Abrahamson) Lofgren in Chisago City. He graduated from Chisago City High School in 1952. Larry attended the University of MN College of Agriculture from 1952-1954. In July 1954, along with 11 other young men from this area, he entered the Marine Corps. Fall of 1956 brought him back to the U of M where he graduated in Agriculture Education, June 1960. He attended graduate school another year before taking a loan office job with Farm Credit System. He worked in MN, WI and MI. During his 27 years with Farm Credit, he did 10 years of supervision, travelling to Michigan.
Larry loved the U of M sports, especially basketball and football, having many years of season tickets to both. He was also an original member of Chisago Lakes Golf Course where he loved to golf for many years. His claim to fame came in Hawaii where he got his hole in one, on the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui. Larry was also a lifetime member at Zion Lutheran church in Chisago City. Larry was a friendly man, always striking up a conversation with strangers and most always ending up having something in common with them or shared acquaintances.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and son Hans.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; daughter Cathy (Wade) Vecchie; daughter-in-law Monica Lofgren; grandchildren, Soren and Frances Lofgren; brother Lorin (Loretta); sister-in-law Mavis (Gary) Hardenburgh and nieces, nephews, plus all his coffee buddies from McDonalds.
Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran church parking lot fund, Accent Hospice and Family Pathways.
Private services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago City, MN. Interment will be in the Chisago Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Grandstrand Funeral Home, Lindstrom, MN. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
