Laurel Mae Anderson, age 80 of North Branch, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
Laurel was born on July 12, 1940 to Larry and Mae (Szymanski) Dahl in Stacy, Minnesota, where her parents were business owners and active members of the community. She attended a two-room schoolhouse in Stacy until eighth grade, where she excelled in her studies. One of her claims to fame was that she was allowed to skip 3rd grade and subsequently graduated from Chisago City High School at age 16.
Laurel enjoyed helping her parents with the family business and spending time with friends.
In 1957, Laurel met Sheldon Anderson, a handsome farm boy from North Branch. On October 25, 1958, they were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch, and blessed with three children Jerol, Trudy and Gregg. Laurel loved raising her family and waited to start her career until her children were self-sufficient. She started working as a bookkeeper for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stacy in 1975. She spent the last 14 years of her career working as a bookkeeper for the Chisago County Sheriff’s Department and retired in 1996, at age 55.
Spending time at her cabin in Cromwell, MN, traveling with friends and family, and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, were her favorite pastimes. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved adding many special touches to holiday gatherings. She will be dearly missed by many.
Laurel is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Mae Dahl; her sister Judy (Dahl) Humble and her daughter-in-law Judy (Jerol) Anderson.
Laurel is survived by her husband Sheldon; her three children, Jerol Anderson, Trudy (Robert) Lundeen, and Gregg (Rita) Anderson; seven grandchildren Luke, Nicole, Jeremy, Kara, Jade, Austin and Sydney; 14 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Eileen Anderson.
A funeral service for immediate family will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stacy, MN. We would love for friends and extended family to join via live web link. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stacy, MN.
