Kris Olson

Kris Olson, 60, of Lindstrom, Minnesota, was born in St. Paul, to parents Roland "Rol" C. Olson and Mildred "Millie" A. (Zocher) Olson. He was raised in South St. Paul and graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1979. As a talented pianist and percussionist in his school band, he was honored with the John Philip Sousa Award. Also in his senior year, Kris "Ole" became the keyboardist, a vocalist and founding member of the cover band Deuce. He was a contributing keyboardist for North Winds and Blues. Kris played piano and sang for many beautiful wedding ceremonies. Kris married Jackie Nelson of Wisconsin in 1982; they divorced in 1984.

Kris attained his Associates Degree in accounting at Metropolitan State University. He worked at the Honeywell headquarters in Minneapolis, in accounts payable, and was promoted to manager. After several years, he gave up the long commute and took a local job at Plastic Products in Lindstrom. He worked at PPC for a couple weeks shy of 24 years; having made many friends there, they became his work family.

Kris was married for 25 years to Michele "Shelly" (Bechthold) Olson. She became his partner for many fishing adventures and his movie theater and dining out companion. He always appreciated her home cooked meals, made with love. They were blessed with one daughter, Sarah Grace Olson. He was a wonderful, supportive and attentive father; making time to watch her many activities. Kris was excited when Sarah followed in his foot steps and played percussion in band, and when she played cajon for the Deuce 40th Anniversary event in 2018. He was a proud dad when Sarah went off to college.

Since very early childhood, Kris was interested in all types of butterflies, moths, bugs and other creatures. He was passionate about the natural world. He was a night sky gazer, an amateur storm watcher and could water witch. He was always curious and forever learning. Kris was also a year-round fisherman. He especially enjoyed it when family and friends would ice fish with him on the annual Presidents Day fishing trips in Wisconsin. He loved teaching his skills to the next generation.  Kris treasured spending time with his extended family. He was always a fun and enthusiastic person at every gathering. Kris had many close friends; was always kind, cheerful, positive, and had a mental library of many long, entertaining stories he shared. He would often call people for no particular reason, but wanted to "touch base and see how they were doing." Kris enriched our lives, and will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love him.

Kris is preceded in death by his parents, first Rol and recently Millie, on June 17; also by his brothers Jon and Eric; Jon's wife Linda; his grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and mother-in-law Gloria Bechthold.

He is survived by his wife Michele;  daughter Sarah; sisters Nancy (Arthur) Ledesma and Becky (John) Ludwig; sister-in-law Maridee Olson; father-in-law Lowell Bechthold;  brothers-in-law John and James (Lori) Bechthold; sister-in-law Patty Bechthold, aunts, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Kris' Life will take place 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021, at Grandstrand Funeral Home, 11900 Lake Lane North, Lindstrom, MN 55045.
