Irma Lou Bon (Magnison) Ekstrom, age 88, of North Branch, passed away on April 18, 2020.

Irma was born to Alma (Carlson) and Wilbur Magnison on November 25, 1931.  She attended school all 12 years at Main Street School graduating in 1949.  She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.  Irma lived her entire life on a farm except for three years in the Twin Cities while she was employed at the Minnesota Dept. of Social Welfare and the University of Minnesota. She was employed as a secretary for 45 years including working at Federal Cartridge and the Hazelden Foundation.  She was also a Tupperware dealer for many years.

She married Allen Ekstrom on May 3, 1952 at the Little Brown Church of Iowa, and has since lived on the same farm where they raised their three children, Jon, Lori and Jane.

Irma was always very involved in her church and community. She has been a member of the American Swedish Institute since 1975; the Ki-Chi-Saga Swedish Club and the North Chapter of the Chisago County Historical Society.  Irma was recipient of the community service award by the North Branch Lions in 2011. She enjoyed genealogy, making four trips to Sweden which included visiting the birth place of three of her grandparents who immigrated to America. Gamala Stan in Stockholm was a favorite area.  Other special trips included Alaska and Israel.

Irma is preceded in death by husband Allen and survived by son Jon; daughters Lori Richardson and Jane (Robert) Barnett; four grandsons, Jason and Jacob Richardson and Andrew (Tereasa) and Daniel Barnett; two great grandsons, Jayvyn Richardson and Bentley Richardson and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

“I feel my gift is to serve and I received that from God, the good Lord” ~ Irma.

Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at church, on Saturday.  A Swedish luncheon will be held immediately after the service followed by interment at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in North Branch.  Facial masks are not required, but are encouraged to be used by those attending the services.
