Stuart Johnson

Stuart Gunnar Johnson, 84, passed on Saturday, October 30, 2021 after a long journey with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

Stuart was born to Gunnar and Thelma Johnson on July 20, 1937. He married his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Jean (Bloomquist) Johnson, on April 23, 1960.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, traveling the world on the Navy's first ever helicopter assault carrier, the USS Thetis Bay. After the Navy he attended Dunwoody and worked for Unisys (formally known as Univac/Sperry) for 38 years. He served his community through his 47 years on the Chisago Lakes High School chain gang, involvement with Zion Lutheran Church, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Parmly church services.
He will be remembered for several good qualities, but ultimately, for his admiration for his family, his gentle spirit, kind heart, and natural ability for being good at almost everything he tried.

Stuart is preceded in death by his parents and recently his wife, Barbara, who passed on August 3, 2021.
He is survived by his sister, Judy (Tyler) Smith; daughters, Susan (Tom) Swanson and Sandra (Jon) Nickelson; grandchildren, Andrea (Grant) Tomsche, Allen Nickelson, Krista Swanson, and Rachel (Matt) Merrick; great-grandchildren, Ila and Olin Tomsche, and baby Tomsche due to arrive June of 2022; also his sister-in-law Beverly (Joe) Todaro; nieces, nephews, cousins, great/grand-pets, and very dear friends and neighbors.

Memorial Service 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City.  Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and also one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment for both Stuart and Barbara will take place at Chisago Memorial Park.
