Herbert Letourneau

Herb Letourneau was born in White Bear Lake, Minnesota to Earl and Leona Letourneau, graduated White Bear Lake High School and St. Paul Technical School.

Herb worked as a machinist.  On March 21, 1970 he was married to his love,  Linda.  A year later their daughter Kae was born.  A year later, they moved to Chisago City where they purchased their first home.  He became a member of the Chisago City Fire Department and a year later was third assistant chief.

Their second child, son Michael was born on Christmas Eve that year.  The next year Herb became second assistant chief and the following year assistant chief.  He held that position for 11 years before becoming Chief of Chisago City Fire Department for eight years.  A total of 26 years on the department.  He had Dalmatian dogs to go along with being a firefighter.

In 1975 Herb started Herb’s Small Engine Repair followed by H & L Machine which he and Linda owned for 42 years before retiring and selling to their son.

Their lives were filled with the activities of their children Kae (Paul) and Mike (Cate) and grandchildren Austin and Becky Letourneau, Emilee and Elissa Lance, Kaiden Beaupre and Carmynn Durand, running a business, traveling on their Honda Goldwing as members of Minnesota Wings for 27 years, being part of Minnesota Cushman club for 30 years, camping with family and friends, hosting parties and enjoying their time together. Whatever project Herb took on he did with precision.  A job needed to be done well, even cutting the grass.
In retirement he started wood turning with precision making projects he turned out as gifts. Herb enjoyed being an OWLL and working with the group in Ojiketa Regional Park restoring the park for the many who use it. Herb enjoyed working with the finance team at Zion Church and working on projects for the church properties.

Most of all, his wife Linda who he was married to for 51 years and family were most important to him.  He loved having the grandchildren and his new great granddaughter with him at a meal or playing on the tree swings, and many activities when they were together.  He was always supported by his brother Jim and sister Jan.

Herb was honored by the mayor of Chisago City for his contributions to the city by proclamation that November 30 is Herb Letourneau Day.  He touched many, many people in being a good friend and someone you could depend on.

Funeral Services 11 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago City with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.  Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran Church garage fund (a project he was working on). Interment at Chisago Memorial Park in Chisago City.  Arrangements by  Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, MN.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grand strandfh.com
