Yvonne McKenzie

In loving memory of Yvonne Ione McKenzie who went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully at Parmly on the Lake. She was surrounded by her loving family on March 21, 2022 at the tender age of 88 years, February 21, 1934 – March 21, 2022.

Yvonne (Sis) was born and raised in Taylors Falls MN byGuy and Iona Longnecker. She used to swim in the St. Croix River at the boat landing, go ice skating at the mill pond in town and go for picnics in the parks. She shared a paper route with her sister Snookie (Joyce) and they had to share a bike for their route. They raised chickens, a cow and had a garden. She also helped run the Snack Bar operated by her brother, Delbert and her mother, Iona Longenecker. She graduated from the Taylors Falls High School.

She met her love of her life, Lawrence McKenzie, at Carl and Gen Schultz Grocery Store & Restaurant in WI. They were united in marriage on Valentine’s Day, 1954.

They lived in Taylors Falls MN, then moved to St. Paul MN where she worked at Brown and Bigelow Company. Then they moved to Chisago City where they raised their five children. She worked at Glomers/Plastic Products in Lindstrom for 35 years until retiring.

She loved being involved with the Taylors Falls Methodist Church. She served on the Ad Council, Chairperson of Outreach and many Church bake and rummage sales. She loved canning, baking homemade bread and chocolate chip cookies and couldn’t wait to give them to others. She made the best potato salad, which she never followed a recipe, she always made it by taste! She also enjoyed her card group, ladies’ coffee groups with her old high school friends and her coworkers from Plastic Products. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and playing cards with them. She loved reading, embroidering, sewing clothes for her family, traveling, music, dancing, picking berries and had a green thumb for growing peonies and Christmas cactus. Her favorite pastime was watching Twins baseball.
She is preceded in death by her parents Guy and Iona Longnecker, husband Lawrence McKenzie, grandson Aaron Lamson, brothers Delbert and Raymond Longnecker, sister Beth Johnson.

Survived by daughters Cindy (Gary) Vangsness, Mary (David) Bailey, LuAnn (Mike) Peterson, sons David McKenzie, Lance (Terri) McKenzie and adopted son Curtis Johnson, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, brother Gordon Longnecker and sister Joyce Schrock.

A special thank you to Parmly on the Lake and staff for the heart felt care and compassion they gave her and the rest of her family.

Visitation will take place 4-7 p.m. Friday April 8, 2022 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom. Church service will be held at 11 a.m., April 9, 2022, with a one hour visitation prior to church services at the United Methodist Church Taylors Falls MN.
