Mary Nelson

Mary E. (Reaka) Nelson was born February 14, 1933. She passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on October 5, 2022.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, as well as six of her seven siblings. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Lee Nelson, her four children; Tony (Jeanne) Nelson, Todd (Fonda) Nelson, Julie (Bill) Kunze, Shad (Maria) Nelson, seven grandchildren, four (soon to be five) great-grandchildren, as well as every other person whose life she touched, which is many.

Mary was born and raised in Bushong, Kansas. She attended Emporia State University. Following her education, she went on to become an elementary school teacher. In the spring of 1955, she met her husband, Lee. On June 16, 1956, Mary and Lee were wed in Emporia, Kansas. Following the wedding, she moved to Lindstrom, Minnesota where they started a family and made a wonderful life together with their four children. Mary continued to teach while her children were young. Eventually, she became Lee's business partner in running the Coast to Coast hardware store they owned in Lindstrom.

Mary had many passions, including music, art, gardening, working for numerous volunteer organizations, and her faith. One of her greatest joys was sharing these passions and knowledge with all who were interested. In that way, she was a teacher until the end. She was an extraordinary person, who made the world a more beautiful place.

Memorial Service 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.  A private family interment will be held at a late date.

Arrangements by  Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota.
