Richard Koch

Richard Jacob Koch, age 95 years, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, December 8, 2022.  He is preceded in death by his children, Amy, Connie and Carl.

He was loved and will be missed by his wife of 74 years, Mary Ann (nee Rooney); his children; Jackie Schumacher (Lowell), Mary Kay Valento, Dan (Mickey), Laura Hoffman (Tom), Cindy Boo (Chuck), Rita Wallin (Ernie), Larry (Kerry), Len (Angie), Anne Thomsen (Carl), Terry (Shelly), John (Christine), Joe (Lori), Kris Feine (Tim), 40 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.

Richard was born and raised in St. Paul, the eighth of nine children.  At 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and served his country during WWII.  After he came home, he started his career with HB Fuller Company, which would last 42 years.  During that time, he married his soulmate and together they raised a family.  In 1973, the family moved to Chisago City, where he would serve as mayor and leave a lasting impression on the community. During his long life, he and our mom were able to travel the world, enjoy winters in Texas and, of course, lake life in the area.  Raising a large family takes a strong faith, an abundance of love, and an outstanding partner.  Dad had all this and more.  He was an exceptional man who, above all, loved his family and we loved him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 at St Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd, in Lindstrom, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2022 at St. Bridget’s and one hour prior to the Mass at church on Monday.  Interment with Military Honors at Chisago Memorial Park in Chisago City, Minnesota.
A heartfelt thank you to St Croix Hospice, especially Amy, Katie and Macy, for bringing us through this journey with compassion, courage and grace.

Memorials preferred to St Croix Hospice or St Bridget’s of Sweden Catholic Church.

Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
