Mark Karnowski

Mark H. Karnowski age 73 of Lindstrom, Minnesota died January 4, 2023 at Fairview Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mark was born in Rush City, Minnesota to Harold E. and Martha J. Karnowski. He graduated from Chisago City High School in 1967 and from St. John’s University, Minnesota in 1971. Mark tested several occupations including teaching high school in Humacao, Puerto Rico, working for the Chisago County Press, as well as WCMP, KABG, and WLKX Radio, the Chisago County Attorney’s Office , and the Minnesota Senate before getting into Minnesota City Administration and working for Chisago City (1984-91), Lindstrom (1991-03) and Princeton (2003-2017).

On June 25, 1983 Mark married Kathleen E. Schipper at the Kost Evangelical Free Church. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending time at the Pine City cabin with family and friends.
In his free time, Mark was an active member of the Chisago Lakes Lions Club, the Chisago Lakes Sportsmen’s Club, the Lindstrom Commercial Club, and the Princeton Rotary. Mark also served on several local and state boards including the Community Partnership for Youth and Families, the Minnesota Clerks and Finance Officer’s Association, the League of Minnesota Cities, the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust, the Coalition of Minnesota Cities, Family Pathways and the Chisago County Historical Society.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Martha and his sisters Julianne and Mary Jo.

Mark is survived by his wife Kathleen, his brothers Thomas of Brooklyn Park and Scott of Shoreview, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to Family Pathways, the local food shelf and Northwoods Humane Society.

Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom. Visitation one hour prior at church.

A private interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom. Condolences may be expressed online at www. grandstrandfh.com.
