Joe Margery Nelsen, 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on January 26, 2023, two days short of her 100th birthday.
She was born in Des Moines, IA to parents Joseph and Louise Ross. As an infant, both her parents died and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Madge and Henry Fredrickson. They lived in Knoxville, TN and then Peoria, IL. She started working at the age of 18 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria. During her work there she had several jobs but the one she related to the most was working on the TB ward.
On a blind date in 1943, she met her future husband Bob, a US Army soldier. They were married three years later in 1946. They were stationed in several places around the world and the U.S. They raised three children while in the Army. They retired in Lindstrom in 1970 and lived in the area until their deaths.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert “Bob.” She is survived by her children; Richard (Judy) Nelsen, Jane (Don) Utech and Joan (Don Jon) Gunderson; grandchildren, Ryan (Susan) Nelsen, Richelle (Aaron) Blommel, Denise Guimont, Stacy (Ryan) Zachman, David (Scotti) Gunderson, and Ellen Gunderson; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, other family, and friends.
Burial will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Lindstrom, Minnesota.
