Joanne C. Dockter, 67, of Stacy, MN passed away March 11th, 2023 at M Health Fairview University Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Joanne was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on January 23, 1956. She spent her childhood there, Black River Falls, and finally New Brighton, MN where she graduated from Mounds View High School in 1974. Joanne would go on to marry Robert Gonnella, and with him, raised four children in Lindstrom, MN, where they bought a cabin on South Lindstrom Lake that would be her home until the dissolution of her first marriage.
From there, she met her husband, Terry Dockter, marrying in 2006, and they made their home in Stacy, MN where she resided until her passing.
Joanne enjoyed crafting, sewing, embroidery, and dabbled in jewelry making. She loved to garden and always made sure her yard was colorful, whether from numerous plants, or the Christmas lights display she would put up every year, which her children dubbed the "Oh my gawdy Christmas" display. Lastly, she enjoyed being a mother to her children, her stepchildren, and all her children's friends who regarded her as a second mother.
Joanne is preceded in death by her parents Curtis and Evelyn (Pederson) Engebretson; daughter Sarah Gonnella and beloved pet Odie.
Joanne leaves behind loving husband Terry; her children; Amanda, Bobbi, and Tony Gonnella, stepchildren; Lori Southard and Corey Dockter, siblings; Cynthia Nelson, Mark (Kendall) Engebretson and Lori Ferrier as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Joanne was a friend to many and was known by many names: Dodie, Josie, Honey, Mom, and Grandma. She will be missed by those she left behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. Please direct all memorials to either Grandstrand Funeral Home or to her immediate family.
