Pat loved her family very much and spoke of them often. She said one of her most memorable times was meeting her son because she had to wait five days due to complications. When she held him the first time she took off the blankets and counted his fingers and toes. She spent most of her life in food service. She was a cook at the Chisago Lakes Primary School and she leased and operated the “Red Carpet” café now known as the “Wagon Wheel”.
Of all Pat’s achievements she said she was most proud of her children, and next; going back to St. Paul Technical Institute at age 52 to get her certification as a Dietary Supervisor. She was the supervisor and cook at the Margaret S. Parmly Residence for several years where she eventually resided during her retirement. She loved living there as much as working there and often talked about how caring people were of her. Pat became known as the non-paid staff who mentored the other residents and helped them feel at home. She was a good and caring friend to many. Pat also talked about all the special home cooked meals she made when she cooked at Parmly and the tradition of Lutefisk, which she prepared once a year for all the residents. Before retiring herself, Pat lived on-site and cared for the elderly at a home known as Senior Homeshare which is no longer in business. She loved the residents and enjoyed preparing homemade breads, soups and a variety of home cooked meals for them.
Pat also loved singing and performing. Some of the best times in her life have been acting in theater performances for Masquers Theater, singing for the Sweet Adeline’s and being Klondike Kate for the 1981 St. Paul Winter Carnival. She sang in the Ecumen Parmly choir and was often a soloist during Sunday service. At Christmas everyone enjoyed listening as she sang “Sweet Little Jesus Boy”. The staff at Ecumen Parmly said they will always remember Pat singing as she pushed herself down the hallway in her wheelchair on her way to one of her many activities. Pat wanted most to be remembered for her sense of humor, “You have to laugh- even at the bad things. I want people to remember me as a good, God fearing person, who loved to have fun.”
Pat is preceded in death by her parents Lambert and Mavis Beer; husband Charles Videen; sister Barbara “Bobby” Johnson; brothers-in-law Bob Johnson, Mike Dellis and Tom Marcio.
She is survived by her children David (Norma) Brehm, Deborah (Craig) DeRitter, Cheryl (Scott) Lecy, William (Michelle Anderson) Videen; grandchildren Christopher Brehm, Anthony (Leah) Brehm, Michael (Katlyn) Videen, Kevin Videen, Carlee Videen, Barb (Richard) Kasper, and Jeremy (Jennifer) Lindman; 14 great grandchildren; sisters Donna Dellis and Karen Marcio; nieces, nephews and many friends.
