He married Donna (Helm) on March 28th, 1963. They had five children Brad, Dan, Lynn, Lori and Maggie.
After the birth of Brad and Dan, they moved to Thief River Falls, where their twin girls Lynn and Lori were born. Shortly after that, they moved to Hugo, Minnesota where Joe found work. It was there that they welcomed their daughter Maggie, and met friends that turned into family.
They made their home in Forest Lake, and later Stacy.
Joe went on to have two additional marriages; one where he welcomed his two sons Joseph and Shane, and the other that left him a widower, when his wife Jeannie passed away.
In 1997, Joe and his first wife Donna reunited their family and remarried at their original family home in Stacy.
Joe and Donna were happily married for 11 more years, until her death in 2008.
Joe lived out the rest of his life at their winter home in Mesa, Arizona where he met many wonderful friends.
He was tragically killed in a house fire in Mesa, March 23, 2016.
Joe was a talented carpenter, and put an extreme amount of pride into any job he did. Whether the job was small or large, he did it right, and he did it with perfection. He will be remembered for his work ethic, his sense of humor, and his big hugs with a kiss on the cheek each time he saw you.
Joe is preceded in death by his beloved mother Lorena, father Henry, wives Jeannie and Donna, brothers Maurice and Ernie, sister Delores, daughter Lori and step-daughter Roberta.
Joe is survived by his children Brad Chouinard, Dan (Lee) Chouinard, Lynn (Kevin) Vadnais, Maggie (Mike) Vadnais, Joseph "J.C." Chouinard, Shane Chouinard, and son-in-law Steve Chelberg.; and by siblings Leona Snyder, Doris Severson, Bonnie Holter, Paul Chouinard, and Lenore Chouinard, also by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-children, nieces, nephews, as well as many other dear relatives and friends.
All are welcome to attend a funeral and luncheon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stacy, Minnesota Saturday, April 9, 2016. Visitation at 2 p.m., service at 3 p.m., with a luncheon at 4 p.m.
Joe was cremated, and a burial will take place at a later date.
