The turnout for the Chisago Lakes Lions ice fishing contest February 15 had to be one for the record books. Members reported every last cookie and hot dog was sold, the club opened 300 ice fishing holes which were all spoken for. The club had access to the entire south end of North Center Lake, as the traditional car racing and various activities were relocated and the picture perfect Minnesota winter day definitely attracted numbers of family contestants.
The raffle pot of cash, which is split 50-50 between the club and the winner, was well supported with over $1,600 split. Congratulations to Dave on winning half of that; and for your very sportsman-like gesture of rewarding the youngster who helped out on the drawing.
There were four youths who tied for biggest fish weight, and a brief negotiation ensued on a couple of spontaneous cash prizes to supplement two bicycle winners.
There were additional prizes of Deutschland Meats products, an ice auger and a space heater and the Frankie’s gift card awarded to the first prize fish.
The classic thrill of victory rippled among the crowd as the winning Northern was pulled out of its hole mere minutes before the 3 p.m. contest closed.
Lions members want to see you at their waffle breakfast, Saturday March 28 at Chisago Lake Township Hall. Details coming later.
