Ramona Marie (McCurdy) Peterson, age 90, from Chisago City, MN passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from heart complications at M Health Fairview in Wyoming, MN.

Ramona was born at home in Scandia, MN to David “Earl” and Alice (Olson) McCurdy on June 24, 1933. She attended school in Forest Lake, MN and then in the later grades in Chisago City, MN.  Ramona was in the graduating class of 1951. When she was a senior she met Maurice Peterson, a tall handsome 25 year old farmer who was playing on a men’s basketball team.  On February 2, 1952 they married at her home church, Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia, MN and she became a full time farmer’s wife.  

Maurice and Ramona raised their four children on the home farm in Chisago City and Ramona continued to live there until her death.  In the earlier years she was an avid gardener and loved tending to her big yard and flowers. Ramona enjoyed driving snowmobiles and in the later years her John Deere ‘Gator around the farm. She was a wonderful cook and baker and could whip up a delicious meal with short notice. Her greatest love was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her loving presence will be greatly missed in our family.

Ramona is survived by two sons, Bruce (Diane) and Michael (Karen); two daughters, Kathleen Fisk and Sharleen Anton; 14 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; brothers, David (Mary) McCurdy and Marlin (Gwen) McCurdy; sister-in- law Carol Peterson and many nieces and nephews.

Ramona is preceded in death by her beloved husband Maurice; grandson Steven (Stu) Peterson and son-in-law Thomas Fisk; her parents; brother James; sister Patricia (Paul) Segelstrom; in-laws, Erwin and Florence Peterson, sister–in-law Eileen (Bernard) Kalway; brothers-in-law, Rodney Peterson and Richard E. Peterson. 

We would also like to thank and acknowledge Joanne Ryan, her faithful and wonderful caregiver who helped Mom live out her greatest wish, to continue to live in her own home. Also, we will always remember with deep appreciation the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for Mom so lovingly during her final hospital stay.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago City, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Chisago Memorial Park, Chisago City, MN. Arrangements are with Grandstrand Funeral Home, Lindstrom, MN. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
