Cleo Stomberg

Cleo Mecie (Lange) Stomberg, age 91, of St. Croix Falls, WI, formerly of Shafer, MN went home to be with her savior on May 4, 2024. Cleo was born on September 24, 1932 to Edward and Mecie Lange. She was baptized into Christ on August 7, 1934 and confirmed on March 25, 1945 in the Lutheran faith. Cleo was a long time active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taylors Falls, MN. Her first marriage was on June 13, 1951 to Rynold Erdman. With Rynold, she had two children, Diane and Rosalee. They divorced in 1968. On November 1, 1969, she married Eldor Stomberg, gaining six more children, Dale, Craig, Dennis, Myles, Susan, and Lisa. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cleo dreamed of having a large family and she surely received just that. She did a wonderful job melding the family together. She was immediately thrown into all of the events involved in raising a large family: baptisms, confirmations, birthdays, graduations, weddings, births.

In her spare time, she traveled with her truck driver husband, Eldor, to many states and experienced the world outside of Minnesota. She learned to pick and sell cucumbers, she cleaned houses, she participated in community activities and served in the church. She loved gardening, especially growing flowers. She loved making the best homemade jellies. She enjoyed fishing. She loved making music, playing guitar, autoharp, and piano. She made a record, recording two songs, one “I Don’t Want to Go, I Want to Stay” and another, “I Talked to Jesus and He Listened to Me”.

While being rehabilitated a number of times and also living in the Divine Healthcare Nursing Home, she lifted up many of the residents, bringing smiles to their faces with her music. She wrote songs and poems for the staff, calling them angels.

Cleo is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mecie Lange; husband Eldor Stomberg, son Dale Stomberg, grandchild Yvette Stomberg, siblings Sonny Lange, Hank Lange, Fred Lange, Rose Swarm, Anna Mae Lange, Woodrow Lange, and Michael Lange.

She is survived by her children; Mari Kook, Craig Stomberg (Bernadette), Diane Switzer (Mike), Rosalee Valleen, Dennis Stomberg (Lori), Myles Stomberg (Marilyn), Susan Huber (Randy), Lisa Griffiths (Steve), and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and siblings Violet Negus and Linda Jordan.
