And what a career it has been. While with Chisago Lakes, Moody qualified for the state tournament four times, including in 1999 where he placed eighth overall.
From there, Moody moved onto play with Indian Hills Junior College for the next two seasons. In his first season there, Indian Hills won the Junior College national golf championship. As for Moody, he was named Honorable Mention All-American.
After a second season at Indian Hills, Moody was offered a scholarship at Kansas State, a Division One program playing out of the Big 12 conference.
While with the Wildcats, Moody helped K-State climb up the Big 12 ladder. After finishing near the bottom of the conference as recent as five years ago, the Wildcats finished fourth in the conference in 2004, qualifying for the NCAA regionals.
As for Moody, who was a senior this past spring, the home town product played in nine tournaments, finishing the season with a stroke average of 74.
“It’s been great. I’ve really learned a lot,” explained Moody. “I’ve been a lot of places and met a lot of people that I would’ve never met if it wasn’t for golf. It’s really been fun.”
A feeling that Moody hopes to take to the next level. He will be moving to Phoenix in three weeks to work on his game year-round, hoping to add another chapter to his golfing career.
“If you can’t improve your game in Phoenix, you can’t improve it anywhere,” smiled Moody. “I think you have to start small in golf, especially considering how popular it is right now. You don’t want to jump into it too deep because you might get discouraged. I just plan on working on my game and hopefully things will go from there.”
