The Clogging Premier is an enthusiastic group of conditioned athletes who practice many hours to perfect their intricate footwork and arm movements. The team attended the Clogging Champions of America National Finals last February in Chattanooga, Tennessee, qualifying to dance off in six different categories at the AAU Junior Olympic games.
The excitement began the morning of August 3 when the coaches of the Clogging Premiere, Rob and Sheryl Keller, ran the last leg of the torch run during the opening ceremonies. Then the dancing began.
The categories the Clogging Premiere performed in were Hoedown, Precision, Small Team, Standing Line, Exhibition, and Team Acapella. Throughout the day, the team executed clean performances earning them medals in all categories. Medal winners included a gold medal in the Jr. Hoedown team competition, a silver in the team Precision, gold in the Jr. Small Team, gold in the Standing Line, silver in the Exhibition, and gold in the Sr. Team Acapella. The powerful performances earned them pure gold.
In addition, they were awarded gold medals for overall Hoedown Team, overall Small Team, and overall Acapella Team.
Individually, Tashina Martinson won a gold medal in the Acapella and bronze in the Freestyle, Lisa Law registered a silver in the Freestyle and a bronze in the Acapella, David Carlson won silver in the Freestyle, Amanda Gabert received a gold medal in the Acapella, and Amanda Shaleen also struck gold in the Acapella. Gabert and Sheryl Keller received a gold medal in the Short Duo/Duet category as well, while Martinson and Brady Langer won a bronze.
No question, the Clogging Premiere expresses feelings of great pride honoring Minnesota with a championship team. They will remember making their mark at the 2004 XXXVIII AAU Junior Olympic games. What a season to remember.
