The Chisago Lakes wrestling team were anxiously awaiting the Christmas break last week. That’s because, after facing off with St. Michael-Albertville, Buffalo, and Monticello last week at the St. Michael Quad, they earned the time off.

The Wildcats started with state power St. Michael. The Knights showed the ‘Cats why they are among the best in the state, winning every match en route to a 76-0 win. Seven of the matches were won by forfeit. Chisago’s best moment of the meet came at 130 pounds where Brian Jones narrowly missed a win, falling by decision 6-3.

Next up was Buffalo. Although the score was a lot closer than their meet with St. Michael, Buffalo won five matches by forfeit which was more than enough to put them over the hump in a 51-20 win.

Jones, John Hogie, Kelby Kowalenko, Dan Gemuenden, and Luke Anderson grabbed wins for the Wildcats. Hogie picked up the only pin at 135 pounds.

With St. Michael and Buffalo in the rear view mirror, the Wildcats finished the meet with Monticello. The Magic jumped out to a quick lead by winning four of the first five matches. They then finished the meet by winning the final four matches, giving them a 48-19 win.

For the ‘Cats, Jones, Hogie, and Gemuenden all picked up their second win of the day. In addition, Mike Welle and Chad Stenson also picked up victories.
