At the center of the island pool a small crowd forms to stand and wait every five minutes. The kids wait in the middle of the pool because a giant 350-gallon bucket has been slowly filling with water.

As the water nears the top of the bucket, the bucket tips onto a roof and a huge fan of water is sent out to drench the waiting kids.

The huge bucket is the centerpoint of the new Wild Adventure Island at Wild Mountain Water Park, Alpine Slides and Go-Karts. The new attraction at Wild Mountain will likely become a welcome place for kids and grown ups to stay cool this summer.

The water park, located 7 miles north of downtown Taylors Falls on Wild Mountain Rd. (CR 16), will host a grand opening for its newest attraction Saturday, July 24.

Wild Adventure Island is a wet and wild activity center surrounded by a water play area from 18 inches deep down to zero depth for even the littlest adventurers.

Amy Frischmon, one of the owners of Wild Mountain, said the new Wild Adventure Island should appeal to a wide range of ages.

“It’s targeted for 6 months through 12 years, but everyone will like it,” she said. The four water slides in the center are large enough for an adult to slide with their little one on their lap.

Possibly the most entertaining aspect of the center for kids are the interactive features located all over the island. Adventurers can turn dials and wheels and pull chords to make water shoot out from a variety of pipes and tubes.

Frischmon said she has seen kids spend hours discovering how to get all the interactive features to fill up buckets or spray themselves.

Frischmon said parents don’t have to worry about the 350-gallon bucket of water that spills over every five minutes – it is set up so the water is dispersed over a wide enough area to slow down the force.

“No one could get knocked over,” she said.

The island is built in the middle of the Lazy River, where guests can slowly float around the circular waterway on tubes.

Cost for the Wild Adventure Island is included in the cost of admission when guests purchase a water slide pass or a Superday pass at Wild Mountain. The island is open along with the rest of the park seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The island opened to guests July 1, but an official ribbon cutting ceremony will start the grand opening festivities July 24 at noon. Wild Adventure Island will open to guests at noon the day of the grand opening.

The festivities will also include face painting, hair braiding, balloons and free hot dogs and pop. Cities 97 will broadcast music to begin the day and a deejay will take over to provide music the rest of the day.
