George, the son of Aloysius and Anna (Theis) Greene, was born June 30, 1925, on the family farm located a few miles south of Shafer. He attended elementary grades at the Woodlawn School (now the Franconia Town Hall). Following graduation from Osceola High School, he joined the Army and spent the next two years serving his country, which brought him to Japan during WWII.
He married Jane Ellen Nelson, of Shafer, July 20, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Taylors Falls. They settled on a farm in Franconia Township near the Greene’s family farm raising six children. George was employed at Stockers Heating and Plumbing for more than 30 years, as a mechanical engineer servicing commercial businesses, hospitals and schools with their heating and air conditioning needs.
In addition to farming, George enjoyed deer hunting, electronics, building and repair, as well as purchasing and operating heavy equipment in his later years for those projects on the farm and his children’s farms/land. But more than these activities, was his enjoyment of family and friends, and desire and willingness to help others. When he no longer could physically help, he continued to provide consultation and direction, guiding and coaching those family members and friends with his knowledge and experiences.
After 50 years of marriage and living on the farm, and several years of declining health, George and Jane moved into town, where he spent his remaining five years as a resident of Lindstrom.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Ann; brothers: Raymond, Cyril and Herbert; and son-in-law, Daniel Anderson.
He is survived by wife, Jane; children: Loretta Anderson, of Shafer; Michael Greene, of Shafer; Robert (Sandy) Greene, of St. Croix Falls, Wis.; Kenneth (Joyce) Greene, of White Bear Lake; Loraine (David) Rue, of Almelund; Marie (Gordie) Kulzer, of Osceola, Wis.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters: Mildred Rush, of Mora; Mary Ann (Don) Hecht, of Cumberland, Wis.; brothers: Ralph (Rosemary) Greene, of Eau Claire, Wis.; L.
