North Branch 166
It wasn’t exactly the warm-up meet Tom Moriarty was looking for.
With the Rum River Conference Meet less than a week away, Moriarty was hoping to see more 30’s than 40’s. We was hoping...
Instead, the Vikings posted one of their highest scores of the season, falling to Milaca by 11 strokes. North Branch finished with a team score of 166. Only Tyler Leland shot in the 30’s, finishing with a 39.
“I was talking to their coach before the meet and he was telling me that they normally shoot 166 or 167,” remembered Tom Moriarty, North Branch head boys golf coach. “They come out and shoot a 155, 11 strokes better than their average. What can you say? That’s golf. They had their best round of the year and we’re still waiting for ours.”
Tom Koep followed right behind Leland, finishing with a 40 while Tony Beaver pulled off a 42 as the Vikings number six golfer. Brad Peters rounded out the Vikes top four, carding a 45.
