Out in the barn I have dozens of minnows in the aerated bucket anxiously awaiting their opportunity to go crappie and walleye fishing with me. The guys at the bait and fly shops in Duluth and Superior inform me that the Chinook salmon are present in North Shore rivers and fresh steelhead are being caught in the Brule River. Hmm, as if that weren’t enough, the recent onset of cool, fall-like weather is compelling me to think long and hard about bow hunting.
Anders mentioned about a month ago that he’d really like to try some salmon fishing, and has occasionally brought the same subject up since then. The next thing I know, I find that my wife and I are planning a weekend family trip to Two Harbors. How about that? Yes, Two Harbors is conveniently located near many fine rivers in which the salmon are now running.
Thank goodness I was successful in transforming my 5-year-old son into a fishing “junkie” at such a young age. He’s always asking mom, “Can Daddy and I go fishing?” Sort of takes some of the pressure off, you know?
Well, I suppose we should have some waders and salmon gear along when we eventually hit the North Shore. We might as well give the Chinooks a whirl as long as we’re up there.
You know, for Anders’ sake.
