He is preceded in death by parents, Swan and Hannah; siblings: Paul, Eldon, Helen, Ethel, Carl, Harry, Lucille and Theodore.
He is survived by nephews: Ted Nelson Jr., Jeff (Caridad) Nelson; nieces: Cheryl (Art) Hart, Pam (Ken) Peterson.
John was born and raised in Canby, Minn.
He is a veteran of WWII where he served in the Army Signal Corps in China and India. When he returned home from WWII in 1945 he settled in Sunrise, Minn., where he farmed with his parents and siblings. In addition to farming he worked at FMC-Northern Ordinance, in Fridley, from 1955 to 1975. He was a lifelong member of the Sunrise bible church.
The last couple of years of his life he lived at the St. Croix Valley Good Samaritan Center where he received excellent, loving care. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle man with a great sense of humor.
Funeral service Thursday, Oct. 21, 2 p.m., at Sunrise Bible Church, in Sunrise, Minn. Visitation one hour before service at church. Interment at Sunrise Cemetery. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home. Memorial preferred to St. Croix Valley Good Samaritan Center, 750 E. Louisiana Street, St. Croix Falls, WI 54024.
