He was born May 17, 1924, in Chisago, Minn., to Albert and Inez May Bredenberg. Swede was raised on a farm near Chisago City and he graduated from Chisago High School. He served in the U.S. Army, in Europe, during World War II.
Most of his life was spent in highway construction; he also designed and built a tractor, the largest of its time, that drew the attention of International Harvester in 1953. He was especially proud that people from all over, including Venezuela, came to see the tractor he built.
December 20, 1947, he married Adeline “Peggy” Krein. They were the parents of two sons, Kraig and Keith, and resided in Winner, S.D., for many years. She preceded him in death. He and his companion, Rose (Fisher) Porter, moved to Casper, Wyoming, and then to Worland. Swede and Rose were married May 16, 2004, in Worland.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 44 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3093.
Survivors include his wife, two brothers: Virgil, of Yuma, Arizona, and Donald, of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, Keith (Odetta), of Casper, Wyoming; three stepdaugthers: Joey Diers (Dean), of Stevensville, Montana; Wendy Case (Dick) and Susan Porter, both of Casper, Wyoming; as well as 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ina; and son, Kraig Bredenberg and wife, Mary.
Dad requested we spread his ashes over the mountains. A private family service will occur at a later time. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Champion-Ferries Funeral Home of Sheridan.
