New council should move city forward

The annexation election took place last week in Chisago City. The turnout was pretty high and there are now two newly elected officials. Congratulations to Don Taylor and Larry Parker on their election victories. It would appear that the majority of voter turnout was with the newly annexed part of Chisago City. Now the annexed people will have a voice on all decisions made in Chisago City. Hopefully in the future both sides can work in a progressive manner and steer the city in a positive direction.

Did you see the report last weekend about the rising number of inmates in Minnesota? We (Minnesota) have the fastest growing number of inmates in the entire country. The main reason? Meth. This epidemic is spiraling out of control and we need to get a grip on it and get a grip quick. I cringe to think how close and easy it is for our children to get this horrible drug. We should be worrying about other things like our children’s grades instead of worrying about meth.

The new Pope was installed this past weekend. What an unbelievable turnout at the funeral and the installation. I would have to say that the Catholic contingency looks as strong as ever despite what you read. I hope Benedict the 16th is as open-minded as John Paul was in making strides with the youth of today.

It would appear that we are getting close to getting approval for a new Twins stadium. I personally cannot wait. I grew up going to professional baseball games with my dad. Back then it was outside at the old Met Stadium.

I have so many great memories of evening games in the summer. I would love to be able to make some new memories with my children at a new Twins stadium.

Just a quick note about our local food shelves. Just because the winter and the holidays are past doesn’t mean that the need for help has passed.

If you can spare some food or money, the local food shelves would really appreciate whatever you give. We have a wonderful giving community and let’s keep that giving spirit going strong.
