Shanahan finished the 2005 season with 55 tackles, the fourth best total on the team. He was also credited with a team best 10 pass break-ups, one interception a forced fumble and one blocked kick. He completes his career with 145 tackles and nine interceptions.
For the third year in a row, Luther posted an overall record of 6-4, 5-3 in the Iowa Conference. This marks the first time since 1969-1971 that the Norse have had three winning seasons in a row. Luther’s 18 wins during this stretch are also the most wins posted by a Luther football team during a three-year period since 1986-1988 when the Norse won 19 games.

Shanahan is a 2002 graduate of Chisago Lakes High School and is the son of Dan and Debbie Shanahan, of Chisago City.
Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men's and nine women's intercollegiate sports. As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, the men have won 133 conference championships. In 1982 the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to include women's sports. During this time span, the women have won 48 team titles. Combined, the Norse have captured an unprecedented 181 IIAC titles.
