Celebration of the Lakes was huge success

What a great weekend we had for the Celebration of the Lakes. The balloons had three successful take-offs and everything went great. I really hope you had a chance to take in this year’s event. Every year it seems to get bigger and better. The Saturday afternoon take-off was one of the best attended lift-offs I can remember.

We will be publishing the lists of winners of all the various contests as soon as we receive them.

The sled dog rides were a huge hit this weekend. They had two teams of dogs continually giving rides. The chili cook-off had another great turnout and the ice fishing contest was also a huge success.

I would like to take this time to personally thank Brenda Palmquist and Greg Shaleen for all their tireless work. You would not believe how many hours these two, along with all the great people who helped, put in to make this event such a special one. Most people don’t think about what it takes to put on a community event but believe me when I tell you, these people work so hard to make our celebrations as great as they are.

Still on the subject of Celebration of the Lakes, we are accepting photos for the annual Celebration of the Lakes Photo Contest. I know there are plenty of photos out there, I saw hundreds of people with cameras. If you think you have captured the winning photo, bring it to the Press and enter it. You just might win one of three cash prizes, plus if you win, your photo will be used on next year’s button and other various advertisements. So good luck and please get your photos in.

We here at the Press are getting ready to finish our 2005 Home and Outdoor Show color insert. If you have been thinking about advertising in the brochure, please call us soon. Time and advertising space are running out. We would love to help you get your message out to the public.

Have you ever seen a snowmobile go 160 miles per hour? I witnessed it this past weekend and it totally floored me. I have gone 65 miles per hour before and I felt like I was breaking the land speed record. I think I will stick to the 5 to 8 miles per hour that a golf cart goes. Now that is my idea of a rush.
