Lindstrom couple selected to tell their ‘Grand Casino story’ says it was an experience
Carol Carney said the experience was an eye-opener. The shoot for what is a 30-second spot, lasted four days and involved dozens of crew people and workers behind-the-scenes. Carol and husband Jim were picked up by a chauffeur and driven everywhere they needed to be.
Carol appears in her blue pajamas (key to the plot) and she was given a flesh toned camisole and tights to wear underneath just so she’d feel comfortable.
The director had her do the tip-toe portion of the commercial with slippers on and without, opting for the shot without slippers. She laughed about her ability to do a fast-paced tippy-toe on que versus a slower version. “She’s a natural born actress,” her husband dead-panned. “I was very proud of her.”
Jim’s role is to sit in front of the slot machine while Carol has a misadventure being locked-out of their motel room. at Hinckley.
Carol read in a casino brochure that the advertisers were looking for personal stories, so she submitted the information and didn’t tell Jim she had.
They were at the casino the night of the commercial selections being announced and she still didn’t tell him why they were there. It was a thrill having their names announced to make a commercial. And, unlike some of the other commercials, there are no actors portraying Jim and Carol. The hotel maid in the spot is an actress, Carol said.
The Carneys visit Grand Casino Hinckley frequently to enjoy a meal and have a little fun. They celebrated their 50th anniversary last year at Grand Casino with friends and family.
Carol says, “Everybody there is so nice...from the top of the ladder to the people who empty the ashtrays, everybody is friendly and has bubbly personalities.”
Carol has some experience with being in the spotlight. She was the Winter Carnival’s Klondike Kate in 1971 and she has worked in modeling and talent fields. Jim, retired from the railroad, posed for the photo so he could get back to reading his newspaper.
The Carney Grand Casino spot will begin airing soon.
