Indian Americans shouldn't have monopoly on gambling

Have you seen the commercials all over the television these days about how much the Indian Americans support our local communities? They then urge you to call your government and tell them not to build a state-run casino. It seems there is a lot of talk lately about the state opening one or more casinos to help alleviate some of the ever growing deficit. I fully appreciate that the Indian Americans have and will continue to run their own casinos. But to tell the people of Minnesota to lobby their elected officials is just plain wrong. I would see nothing wrong with the state opening casinos if it meant avoiding further taxing upon you and me. I have seen some of the numbers on what casinos bring in and it is mind blowing. To think that another few casinos will bankrupt the already existing casinos is ridiculous. I am personally not a gambler, but if I was, I would certainly think about giving my losses to the state if it meant getting things done for the state of Minnesota.

We are putting the final touches on our annual Home Business and Outdoor Show insert. Inside you will find all the exhibitors that will be at both shows along with helpful hints on how to spruce up your home or business. This year’s shows promise to be terrific. Last year’s shows were a huge success and this year will be no exception. I hope you and your family will attend the shows this March. It’s always a great time had by all.

Our annual Community Guide is on the way to the printers. We have compiled as much information about the Chisago Lakes and Taylors Falls areas as we could and put it all in a handy guide for you to enjoy. It is perfect for someone thinking about moving into the area. There is all kinds of information and phone numbers that are important to know and at your fingertips. We hope you will enjoy the guide and if you see something we missed, please call us and let us know. We are always looking to make next year’s exactly what the community wants.

I thought we had a bout with the flu last weekend at my house. My son started to get the chills right about supper time and didn’t even finish his ice cream dessert. All night he was up every hour on the hour. The next day he seemed to be just fine. When I asked what it was that made him sick the night before, he told me it was the Scooby Doo video we rented. Who would have thought Scooby would have that kind of impact on someone?
