Parents need to lighten up and let coaches do their job

What is our world coming to? One of our local coaches had a death threat recently. Are you kidding me? What kind of parent would threaten someone’s life over the playing time of their child? You see this more and more it seems. Some people want so badly to live vicariously through their children that they will stop at nothing to see their child succeed in sports. Whatever happened to just letting the kids go out and play sports for fun?

It is so two sided being a coach of a sports team. On one hand you have parents (some, not all) screaming for the coach to put a winning program on the court, which translates into playing the best athletes for the majority of the time. And on the other hand, you have parents (some, not all) screaming for their child to get more playing time.

I really respect coaches in this day and age, nobody should have to put up with the insanity these coaches deal with on a daily level. Something has to be done about the very few of these disgusting individuals who want to lash out at coaches and referees. If they are so right and so insightful, why on earth aren’t they the ones coaching and refereeing?

On a lighter note it seems that our deep freeze is about to come to a wonderful end. The highs are expected to be in the 20s, not the negative 20s. There is one bright spot in all this severe cold, the ice for the Celebration of the Lakes should be plenty thick and safe for the celebration.

We are currently working on our second annual Community Guide. Last year’s guide was a huge success and this year’s promises to be bigger and better. If you own a business or know someone who does, you should give us here at the Press a call. We would love to help you get your message out to the people and to visitors in our area. The Community Guide will be placed all around the county at various sites promising maximum exposure.

Still on the Community Guide subject, if you have any photos of the area, we would love to talk with you. We will be running some photos of local people along with their credits, so please call us soon! We have seen some spectacular photos here at the Press, so why don’t you bring yours in so you could possibly be published. There is no certain category, we would like to see whatever you have.

I now have all of my Sundays officially open. Thanks to the Vikings for letting me finally enjoy the second half of my weekends.
