Who can beat Digger Carlson? No one apparently. Not even a record-breaking 500 runners could overtake the three-time winner of the 17th annual Fairview Lakes Lindstrom Loppet Karl Oskar 5K race Saturday, July 9. Carlson, 43, of White Bear Lake, outpaced all of the 476 runners who crossed the finish line. He posted a time of 16:20, just .04 off his 2004 winning pace of 16:16.

Scoring the best time among female runners entered in this year's race was another Loppet veteran, Kristen Howe, 19, of Forest Lake with a time of 19:36.

Scoring this year was speeded by computerized timing provided by Pickle Events.

"We wish to thank the numerous community businesses who each year provide financial assistance, refreshments and other services to help make the race possible," said co-chairmen Carl Norelius and Leanne Roggeman of Fairview Lakes Health Services. Proceeds of the Loppet go to support nursing scholarships for local students, mentoring programs in local schools, discount bike helmets and this year to offer a depression screening program in the Chisago Lakes High School.
