She was born March 28, 1930, to parents, Andrew and Edith Swenson.
Maxine grew up in Almelund, working at the local Fairway store for Harvey Peterson, before graduating high school in 1948 in North Branch.
Oct. 14, 1948, she married Herman O. Nelson, of Centerville, Minn. They were married for 57 years. Maxine and Herman owned two local business, Nelson’s Cafe (for seven years) and the New Spot Cafe (5 years), both located in Chisago City. She then went to work for Sperry Rand (now Unisys), where she was employed for 29 years.
She spent summers growing and selling vegetables at their vegetable stand, Nelson’s Produce, in Chisago City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Melvin and Elmer Swenson; sisters: Mildred Thoreen and Rubie Peterson; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
She is survived by husband, Herman; son, James (Kathy) Nelson; daughter, Barbara Lindgren; five grandchildren: Rich and Randy Nelson, Chad and Stephanie Lindgren and LaRae Schlender; five great-grandchildren: Tonya, Taylor, Tori, Nicholas and Casey; brother, Anfred Swenson and sister-in-law, Marcella Swenson.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Grandstrand Funeral Home. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home, in Lindstrom.
