After rare loss, ‘Cats rebound with their best golf of the season
Chisago Lakes 154
See if John Hawkinson ever comments on the season again.
Just a week after proclaiming that his team is unstoppable at home, the Mora Mustangs traveled to town and proved him wrong.
“I had to open my big mouth about not losing at home,” smiled Hawkinson, Chisago Lakes head boys golf coach.
Versus Mora last Tuesday, the Wildcats scores were higher than average, posting a 154 as a team compared to scores of 146 and 140 the week before.
Meanwhile, Mora was just good enough to take advantage of the off day, scoring a 152 as a team, defeating the ‘Cats by two strokes.
Individually, Josh Angrimson did his part by carding a four under 32 for the day. However, Luke Angrimson had the next best score at 39, and Mike Tschida and Trent Froberg each hit in the 40’s, scoring a 41 and 42.
The Mustangs top two golfers each scored 36’s, giving them just enough to sneak bye.
The loss marked the first loss of the season for Chisago.

Chisago Lakes 133
Foley 169
Upset after losing their first match of the season, Chisago took out their anger on Foley last Thursday, scoring a season-best 133 as a team, putting them 11 under par. Oh, and the match took place in Lindstrom, giving the ‘Cats some revenge on their own course.
“This could possibly be the lowest round in high school history,” remarked Hawkinson. I can’t prove it so I’ll keep my mouth shut until we play as a team at state.”
If they can shoot a 133, the state meet will be come in time. If Josh Angrimson continues to shoot 32’s, state will be on his calendar as well. For the second straight meet, Angrimson finished as the medalist with a 32. Luke Angrimson finished one stroke behind with a 33, and Tschida and Froberg each carded 34’s. That means, all four Wildcats who factored into the team score shot under par!
“Josh fired another four under round. He’s been spectacular this year,” mentioned Hawkinson.
The win got the ‘Cats back on track. It was their third conference meet victory of the season.

Wildcats grab wins at Mora and Purple Hawk
And you thought a 133 was impressive.
After defeating Foley by 36 strokes last Thursday, Chisago closed out the week by winning the Mora Scramble on Friday and the Purple Hawk Invitational last Monday.
The ‘Cats win at Purple Hawk meant the most. Chisago Lakes finished first out of 21 teams, including section rivals Forest Lake, Grand Rapids, Duluth East and Elk River.
Adding to the event, sophomore Luke Angrimson won the medalist honors, carding a 73 for the day. His brother Josh finished eighth overall with a 76, and Tschida and Froberg each shot 78’s.
“The beginning of the week, we lost to Forest Lake and Totino-Grace at the Forest Lake Invitational, and then we lost to Mora at home. We call that a mid-season slump,” remarked Hawkinson. “Since that point, the team has started to believe that they can play. Confidence is on the upswing from my number one player to my number six player.”
At the Mora Scramble, the team of Josh Angrimson, Tschida and Froberg finished first overall with a team score of 61, including a 32 on the front nine. The ‘Cats second team of Luke Angrimson, D.J. Haus and Scott Liebsch followed with a 62, running second overall. The scores combined gave Chisago a 123 for the day, putting them first.
