The Press is sad to report that we are losing one of our reporters. Andrew Vitalis, our sports writer, is embarking on a new career in the law enforcement field. While Andrew may continue with the paper in some capacity, we are still sad to be losing one of the best sports writers the Press has ever had. Being a sports writer takes a thick skin. While you mainly get to deal with very pleasant people, who appreciate what you do, there are those very few (whom I have written about) that will criticize your every move just because you didn’t report on the success of their child. All and all, I think Andrew handled everybody with respect and class. Good luck Andrew, I’m sure you will make a fine policeman.
There is a saying about when one door closes another one opens. Well that holds true here at the County Press. We are looking for a summer intern to assist in writing sports stories and also to take sports photographs. If you are a responsible, work-oriented high schooler and think you have the skills to report on events, please call us here at 257-5115. This could be a really neat opportunity.
Last week we had another kidnapping that was in the end a big hoax. This woman from Georgia apparently had gotten cold feet before her wedding and made up a crazy story about being abducted. Tuesday I read that the state is pondering not pressing charges. Not pressing charges? Are you kidding me? This woman should be charged every single penny that was spent on the massive manhunt trying to find her. There were chunks of police budgets that got used up because she was apparently not ready to be a bride.
This Sunday is one of the most important days of the year. I’m talking about Mother’s Day. This is our one day to truly honor all the wonderful moms in the world. My mother sadly has passed away but I am so lucky that I have a tremendous mother-in-law to call mom. Make sure you take the time to see, or at the very least, call your mom and let her know how important she is to you. Thank you to all the terrific moms out there––you have done a great job!
