North Branch 0 (5 innings)
Blame it on the bus ride.
After taking the long trip to Foley last Thursday, the Vikings walked off the bus flat and never recovered, falling to the Falcons 10-0 in five innings.
North Branch got just five base runners on in the game, including Dottie Graff who opened up the top of the first with a walk. However, after a stolen base, that’s where she stayed.
Meanwhile, Foley scored one run in the first to grab a 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second inning, the Falcons finished the Vikings off with three runs in the third, fourth and fifth. The barrage of runs paved the way to a 10-0 win in five innings.
“That was a rough outing,” said Larry Brodin, North Branch head softball coach. “We definitely took a couple steps backwards in that one, but we’ll re-group and move onto the next one.”
The Vikings best chance at a run came in the fourth inning when Maggie Johnson doubled and Gabi Olson singled. Those were the last two hits of the game for North Branch.
Johnson finished the game with two hits, accounting for two of the four base knocks for the Vikings in the game.
Stephanie Saxe took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing seven runs (four earned), 10 hits while striking out three.
The loss dropped the Vikings record to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in conference.
