Cats push conference winning streak to three games
Chisago Lakes 2 (8 inn.)
When things are going right- they’re going right. On the reverse side, when you can’t catch a break, well, you know the rest.
There have been times this season when the Wildcats haven’t been able to catch anything, especially on offense. On May 2nd, the ‘Cats gutted through another bat-less game against Foley. Chisago managed just two runs on two hits while Foley proved to be one run better. The Falcons scored the winning run in the top of the eighth inning, giving them a 3-2 win.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to three straight hits. Batting with one out, Foley wrapped back-to-back singles off ‘Cats starter Brittany Slagerman before a double put the Falcons on the board.
It took Chisago one inning to answer as the Wildcats charged back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases loaded with two outs, Nicole Oehme came through in the clutch by wrapping a two-run single, giving Chisago their runs. As it turned out, it was their only runs of the game.
Down 2-1, Foley scored one run to tie the game in the top of the fifth. This time the Falcons needed just two hits to score after a single and triple.
Then, tied 2-2 in the eighth, a Chisago error followed by a wild pitch and a single helped Foley take the lead for good. Although the Wildcats got runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the eighth, they couldn’t come through with the tying run.
Slagerman suffered the loss despite striking out 12 batters and allowing just six hits. Brittany Lofgren and Oehme accounted for the ‘Cats two hits.
The loss dropped Chisago’s record back below the .500 mark, putting them at 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

Princeton 2
Three days after falling to Foley, Chisago got their bats going at home against Princeton on May 5th, scoring 10 runs en route to a 10-2 win. The victory evened their overall mark at 6-6 and 4-4 in the Rum.
The Wildcats scored their runs despite registering just three hits in the game. The lack of hits was a direct result of Tiger pitching. To be blunt, the pitchers were so wild that it was hard to make contact.
Thanks to the Princeton wild streak, the Wildcats scored two runs in the first thanks to a hit batter, walk, and four wild pitches.
It was more of the same the rest of the way as Chisago continued to build their lead, scoring one in the second, three in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. Batting in the fourth, the Wildcats got two of their three hits leading to three runs. After a double by Katie Reed, an error and a walk, Katie Johnson poked a two-run single to the outfield, giving the ‘Cats a 9-2 lead. Chisago walked 13 times in the game.
Slagerman picked up the win on the mound, allowing four hits while striking out 13. Added with her performance against Foley three days earlier, the junior’s strikeout total hit 25 in two games.

Oh how sweet revenge can be.
After falling to St. Michael-Albertville 5-1 to begin the conference season, the Wildcats exacted some revenge on Monday, May 9th by defeating St. Michael 3-2. The road win also put the ‘Cats back above the .500 mark in the Rum, running their conference record to 5-4.
All five runs in the game came in the first three innings. Chisago struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Batting with two outs, Katie Reed doubled to left and Rachel Nelson (the senior) added another one, this time to right-centerfield, scoring Reed for a 1-0 lead. Next up was Ariel Novak who blistered an hit, scoring Nelson for a 2-0 lead.
St. Michael answered back with one run in the bottom of the first, trimming the Chisago lead to 2-1 before the ‘Cats added one more run in the third. That came courtesy of a Morgan Baumgard solo home run after her blast to centerfield hit off the fielders glove and went over the fence. The run put the Wildcats back ahead by two, 3-1.
St. Michael could only muster one run the rest of the way as Chisago held on. Slagerman picked up the win, striking out six batters along the way.
The ‘Cats picked up nine hits in the game. Rachel Nelson (Sr.) and Novak each finished the game with two hits.

Milaca 0
After holding Princeton scoreless and St. Michael to two runs, the Wildcats continued their conference domination last Tuesday by defeating Milaca 4-0. The win moved Chisago’s Rum River record to 6-4 with one week left.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first and never looked back. Batting with two outs, back-to-back singles by Lofgren and Reed put two runners on for Novak who drove them both in with a double, giving them a 2-0 lead.
After taking the second inning off, the ‘Cats got right back to business in the third and fourth, scoring one run in each of the innings.
Leading 2-0 in the third, Reed singled and scored on a Milaca error to push the Wildcat lead to 3-0. Then in the fourth, Baumgard singled home Oehme for the ‘Cats fourth and final run.
Milaca didn’t have any answers. You can thank Slagerman for that. The junior held the Wolves to just one hit in the game, keeping a no-hitter in tact until the top of the sixth. Slagerman also struck out 10 batters in the game while waking just four.
On offense, Reed finished with three singles. Novak and Baumgard each added a hit and an RBI.
