Graduation time for area seniors

Boy, did I have a great weekend. On Thursday my oldest child graduated from pre-school. It seems like yesterday I was carrying this newborn home from the hospital and now he’s wearing a cap and gown. Time really does fly when you have children. We also went to Hamline University’s graduation on Saturday to witness our (hopefully) sister-in-law’s big day. To cap off all of our festivities, we were lucky enough to have my 87 year young grandmother stay with us for a long weekend. It makes me so happy to see four great-grandchildren absolutely idolize their great-grandmother. Thanks Gram for a wonderful weekend.

This Tuesday will mark another graduation ceremony for Chisago Lakes, Chisago Lakes Baptist and North Branch high schools. While working at the Press, we get the privilege of meeting and working with quite a few seniors. I don’t know if it is just me getting older, but the students these days sure seem to be great, responsible, driven human beings. It’s a breath of fresh air to meet such responsible teenagers this day and age. Congratulations to all the seniors on their special day, and a special congratulations to all the wonderful parents who have raised such great kids.

Well, it seems our elected officials are once again headed for another special session. Monday night I watched channel 17’s legislature coverage. What I saw really helped me understand why our legislators cannot agree on most everything and why it takes more than five months to finally agree. For around 30 minutes there were two politicians arguing over how one should speak nicely to the other and how this would make everything go quicker. You would think in the previous five months they could have settled their differences, but no, this had to come when they were up against the clock. I guess when it comes to crunch time nothing should surprise me.

Just a quick note about the upcoming graduation parties. Please be responsible when attending all of these get togethers. Do not drink and drive. If you do drink, please call or ask someone to drive you home. Let’s make this a safe graduation weekend for everybody.
