North Branch 194
It’s not surprising that the Chisago Lakes girls golf team saved their best performance of the season for North Branch.
Hosting the Vikings last Monday, the ‘Cats posted a 188, which marked their best score of the season. They needed every stroke. That’s because North Branch was almost as strong, coming in with a score of 194. It was also the Vikings best round of the conference season.
The Wildcats were paced by Krista Liebsch who carded a 43 which was tops on the course. Right behind her was Jenna Merry who came in with a 45. Lacee Scherer led the Vikings, also shooting a 45.
“It was our best score yet as a team,” said Jeanne Hawkinson, Chisago Lakes head girls golf coach. “We are playing very well. We were happy because we knew North Branch had good players who could pull off great scores, and they did.”

North Branch 199
Mora 237
Less than 24 hours before the North Branch girls golf team was set to take on the Rum River Conference at the conference meet, the Vikings got a last minute tune-up against Mora last Tuesday. And what a tune-up it was. Paced by Amy Aho, North Branch shot a 199 for the day, defeating the Mustangs by 38 strokes.
Aho finished as the medalist, carding a 46 for the day. After her, Lacee Scherer shot a 46 as well, and Kelsey Johnson came in with a 50. Jeni Farr completed the scoring, carding a 55.
“As the season-end nears, we’re finally playing close to our potential,” said Dave Ambers, North Branch head girls golf coach. “Lacee and Kelsey (Johnson) have played fairly consistently all season. The other good news is the improved play of Amy and Jeni.”
The win over Mora put the Vikings right in the middle of the conference standings heading into the conference tournament.

*Milaca wins on 6th score
You can’t get any closer. Facing Milaca Friday, May 13th, the North Branch Vikings shot a 169. There opponent, Milaca, came in with a 169 as well. So in order to determine a winner, they didn’t go to the first, second or even the third score, the sixth score determined the match. Unfortunately, that sixth score gave Milaca the win.
For the second straight meet, dating back to their performance against Princeton, North Branch failed to get a golfer under 40, however, the Wolves followed suit. Jake Lane and Bryan Peters led the Vikings with 41’s for the day while Brad Peters shot a 43 and Greg Moriarty posted a 44. Those four scores added together gave head coach Tom Moriarty a teams score of 169.
Milaca found themselves in the same boat. The Wolves top four came in with a 40, 42, 43, and 44, giving them 169. Both teams shared a 45 as their fifth score. Finally in the end, a sixth score of 48 won it for the Wolves. The Vikings sixth score was a 49. Close, but not close enough.
Milaca’s Beau Meyer finished with the best round of the day, scoring a 40 for the round.
