Honor veterans - say thanks this week

This Friday is a very important day in our country. This is the day that we celebrate those who have put their lives on the line for our country. Veterans’ Day in my mind is one of the most important days of observance we have in the United States. If you are one of those anti-military types, just take a moment and look around. The every day things that we all take for granted, like freedom, are part of our life because these people went to war for us. If you have read my articles in the past, you know how highly I respect our Veterans, and as far as our local Veterans, we have some of the greatest in the world. Please take time out of your day and actively seek out a Veteran. When you do tell them thanks, thanks for a great way of life.

The County Press is currently working on the Annual Holiday Gift Guide. If you are a local business owner and would like to get your message out to the public, this is your chance. This special section will be delivered to over 19,000 homes in Chisago County and surrounding areas. The deadline is quickly approaching so please call us here at 257-5115, and we will help you get your business going this holiday season.

If you are like me and have trouble finding the perfect Christmas gift for that certain someone, have I got the ticket for you. On November 19, the Up North Fine Art Gallery will be hosting a book signing by local wilderness photographer Gary Nelson. If you have never seen any of Gary’s books, I would advise you to take a look. Gary takes some of the most spectacular outdoor photos you will ever see. Couple that with him signing your book, you have the perfect present. I hope my wife isn’t reading this.

This past weekend I helped a friend hang trusses on his new garage. I have never been part of a truss hanging so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, after almost 40 trusses and a good part of my Saturday, I can honestly say that I have a new found respect for carpenters. It is Tuesday and my shoulders feel like they are going to fall off my body. How these tradesmen do that every day is beyond me. There is something else that I have found I have respect for––Advil.
