At the age of 11 he started working out for neighboring farmers, helping them with farm chores and field work. At the age of 16 he went to Iowa every fall to pick corn.
March 9, 1940, he married Dorothy Lindquist, of Chisago City. To this union three children were born: Wayne, Yvonne and Lowell.
Ephraim worked hard, breaking up more land on the farm (44 more acres) increasing the herd of cattle, number of hogs and chickens.
By 1957 he received recognition from George Larson, county agent, for Grade A farm improvements. Ephraim was also active in community affairs, serving on the school board, president of the PTA, member of the creamery board, Zion Church board. He was county commissioner for eight years and one of the organizers of the self-supporting county nursing home and a member of its board.
After moving into town, in Chisago City, he worked at the University of Minnesota for 14 years as an animal lab tech in the cancer and psychiatry research departments.
After retirement, he butchered and cut-up meat for many people until open heart surgery in 1991 forced him to quit. From then on, Ephraim and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed the years traveling, visiting their children, friends and relatives.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brothers: George, Ruben, Floyd, Harry and Dewey; sisters: Gladys, Edythe, Amy and LaVerne.
Ephraim is survived by children: Wayne, Yvonne (David) Snyder and Lowell; grandchildren: Tim (Lori) Snyder and Tim Snyder; great-grandchildren: Tom, Madison and Colton Snyder; and sister, Fern Avoles.
Funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church, in Chisago City.
Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran Church or the Margaret S. Parmly Residence, both of Chisago City.
