Wildcat boys’ soccer team gives awards at season ending banquet
The Wildcats finished their first season as a member of the North Suburban Conference with a 14-5-2 overall record and a 5-4-1 record in the conference. They lost to St. Thomas in the Section 3A finals 3-2 in a penalty kick shootout after playing to a 0-0 tie through regulation and two overtimes.
Head coach Mark Leigh talked about how much fun he had coaching the team this year, and how proud he was of his team for playing hard, practicing hard, working together as a unit and coming within one game of the state tournament. He mentioned how much he’ll miss the seniors. He said, “Even though it’s not a large group, there are a number of key players that we’ll have to work hard to replace next season.” Leigh also thanked his assistant coaches – Andy Brink, Travis Delzer and Roy Knafla – for their contributions to the team’s success, and he thanked Steve Jones for helping to develop this year’s team over the years through coaching them in the Chisago Lakes Youth Soccer Association.
