The North Branch girls' tennis team closed out their regular season Monday, Oct 3. The girls treated their parents to a few snacks, some exciting tennis and a 4-3 victory against Cambridge-Isanti.

The margin of victory came via wins at second, third and fourth singles and first doubles (Ho hum. This duo has only lost twice all season).

“Katelyn Rollins, at second singles, had fabulous groundstrokes and played great with good shot selection. She made her opponent earn points and kept the ball moving. Michelle Scribner, at third, was very consistent, making her opponent very frustrated. She rallied and extended points to keep the ball in play enabling her opponent to make the mistake. Sara Fletcher stepped up at fourth singles to close out a close match. She was very even with her opponent, but utilized her net game to come out on top. She served and volleyed and also approached, which gave her the advantage she needed to be successful,” commented a pleased head coach Kristin Unverzagt.

“First doubles had a great match and dominated the net. They also executed aggressive serve returns to attack the net and close out points,” Unverzagt continued.

The coach was happy with the way her team played. “First singles and third doubles both came down to heartbreaking third set tie breakers. They played well and showed stamina to rally back. The team did a great job and I am very proud of them. Their attitude, work ethic, and motivation will help them out tremendously as we get into the post season.”
