The Chisago Lakes wrestling team had its most successful season in quite some time, finishing with a dual meet record over .500 for the first time in head coach Shawn Frederixon’s five years as head coach.

“The team really came around this year,” said Frederixon. “The kids stuck with the program and things paid off for them. The seniors have been quite a group for us. All four seniors finished with over 20 wins, all lettered four years and were all all-conference this year. Brian Jones has been around on varsity since I started five years ago and has been supportive of the whole program. Chad Stenson had a great year because of how hard he worked. Bobby Ferrier showed the most improvement over his career, going from 12 wins as a freshman to 36 this year. And he hit the 100-win mark in four years, which is amazing. And Dan Gemuenden finished his career with over 60 wins.

“We’ve got some good ones coming up. Our captains for next year – Mitch Anderson, John Hogie and Jonathan Barwin – will have to lead us next year. Hopefully, we can keep our good attitude going for next year.

And our program should continue to improve. We’ve had 60 kids going through our youth program this year. We’re getting more people to help out at the youth level. I’ve seen more things happen this year than the other four years combined, thanks to people like Kevin Stenson, Jackie Stenson and Steve Jones.”

Brian Jones, who was out with an illness for part of the season, finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in takedowns (244), near falls (160) and reversals (82). Jones (128) is also second all-time to Dan Dellwo (154) in wins and third all-time to Dellwo (68) in pins (Jones had 56). Bobby Ferrier finished his career second all-time in pins (61) and eighth in wins (104).
