High-school-age Christian happenings planned thanks to Royal Ranger Service project
The Lakes Area EDGE is a local Christian youth group that is just getting started. Last Saturday’s event was billed as Lakes Area EDGE: A Gathering of Youth Connecting the Body of Christ. The evening featured pizza, pop and music by the Elk River EDGE Band. About 80 enthusiastic local high school-aged youth attended the gathering.
“Our vision for the Lakes Area EDGE is to see it have a positive impact on the local community,” said Ladd. “Our goal is to make this happen on a regular basis throughout the year. Not many people are willing to go the extra mile for kids and we’d like to do that for them. This is one way I thought I could get the youth of the community on fire for Christ.”
The 17-year-old Ladd is home-schooled. In addition to being in the Royal Rangers, he works at a golf course in Blaine. In his spare time, he likes to read and ride BMX bikes.
The Gold Medal award is comparable to the Eagle rank in the Boy Scouts. In order to achieve the Gold Medal, the candidate must complete 24 merits, serve in a junior leadership position for at least six months, write a 500 word essay on “The Value of Royal Rangers to Me” and complete a Christian service project
The Royal Ranger program is affiliated with and sponsored by the Assemblies of God Churches throughout the world, and is similar to the Boy Scouts. Members participate in many outdoor activities, such as camping and fishing, study the Bible and participate in community projects with Christian aspects. The program is open to all boys ages 5-17, and they do not need to belong to an Assemblies of God Church in order to be a Royal Ranger. The goal of the Royal Rangers organization is to strengthen boys mentally, physically, socially and spiritually.
The Lakes Area Edge is looking for a regular place to meet, a local band to play at their functions and sponsorships from local businesses. If you’d like to help out, please call Joe Ladd at 651-210-5781.
