Swede was born in Center City, Minn., raised in Lindstrom, Minn., and was a longtime south Jersey resident.
Swede was the owner and operator of Holiday Haven Campground which he purchased in 1978 and developed and is still operated by his family. He had previously been employed as a financial planner for IDS Services. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, of Millville, as well as the Moose.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing and time with his little girl Brulee.
He is survived by his companion: Sonia Wilson; two sons and daughters-in-law: Russell and Donna Nelson, Estell Manor, NJ; Karl and Joan Nelson, Manhattan, NY; four daughters: Cristine Nelson, Vld., NJ; Karen Nelson and Rei Prabhakar, Clermont, NJ; Doris and Timothy Kopko, Franklinville, NJ; Alice and Neil Weisshaar, Sewell, NJ; five grandsons; Sonia’s family: Denise Allgood, Brian Wilson, Caitlyn and Mike Allgood; two brothers: Lyle and wife, Suzie Nelson, OR; and Mylo and wife, Barb Nelson, Minnesota; two stepbrothers: Lowell and wife, Fran Madin and Lyle and wife, Delores Madin; two stepsisters: Lois and husband, Darwin Berglund, and Linda and husband, Roger Lindgren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral service was celebrated at 4 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 8, 2006, at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland, NJ. Cremation and interment will be private.
