Ki Chi Saga Days are upon us. Chisago City is once again host to one of my favorite celebrations around the area. This year there will be city wide garage sales for all you bargain hunters. You can find a list of addresses in our classified section.
On Friday the carnival comes to town. So, grab your children and bring your camera. Also, on Friday night Chisago City will shoot off their annual Ki Chi Saga Days fireworks. I love the fact that they shoot them off on a Friday so young children can stay up late. The fireworks will be at Paradise Park at dusk.
Saturday the day gets kick started with the “Extra Mile” 5k race. The race starts at 8 a.m. and registration starts at 7 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Last year they had a great turn out and hopefully this year’s numbers will be even greater.
As always, Moberg Park will be the central hub for activity during Ki Chi Saga Days. In the park you will find an old world market, bands in the gazebo, and a walking historical tour that starts at 10 a.m.
If you have small children, I would urge you to enter them in the kiddie parade that starts at 11 a.m.
Moberg Park will also be host to Swedish folk dancers, a clown, cloggers and the most important of all––the crowning of Little Miss Ki Chi Saga. See this edition of the Press for times and places.
Sunday gets rolling with a pancake breakfast at Zion Lutheran Church. Both Saturday and Sunday you can take in a “Rhubarb Frenzy” held at Winehaven. They will be featuring some of their wonderful wines, along with entertainment.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, the Ki Chi Saga Grand Day Parade begins. Get there early to get a spot and enjoy the parade.
The great people in Chisago City have worked their tails off to make this year’s Ki Chi Saga Days one of the best ever, so please try to make a point to get out and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Thanks to all who came out and supported Dan Shanahan at Saturday’s benefit in Chisago City. We were unable to get a babysitter, but I am told it was a huge success. It just goes to show, when you are a terrific person, people come out in droves to support you.
Last week I was talking with Judy Olson of Almelund. She was telling me how she and her husband Alan grow grapes for a well established winery in southern Minnesota. She also told me that this year they have a surplus of grapes that are now available to the public. They have an abundance of juice, jelly and table grapes that are coming ripe soon. If you would like to enjoy some locally grown grapes, give the Olsons a call. Their phone number is 651-583-2161, or come visit them at 16906 Wild Mountain Road in Almelund.
