The Chisago Lakes girls’ and boys’ alpine skiing teams each clinched another conference championship with victories over Champlin Park Thursday, January 19 at Wild Mountain.
The Wildcat girls skied to the first five spots and eight of ten scoring positions on the way to a 48-7 win over the Rebels. Sarah Bottjen was the fastest on both runs and her total time (51.11) was almost a second faster than teammate Brianna Stoeckman (52.07) and 14 seconds ahead of the first Champlin Park skier.
The boys had a bit more competition as they won 38-17. Rebel Andy Fischer won the event with a combined time of 48.16. The Wildcats, who swept the next five places, were led by Mitch Peterson’s 51.04. He was closely followed by Chisago skiers Andrew Wagner (51.07), Gus Garbe (51.17) and Dan Sandgren (51.52).
Welch Invitational
The Wildcat skiers finished third at the Welch Invitational Friday, January 20.
The girls finished third, the boys were eighth and the combined results gave Chisago Lakes third overall in the huge 47 team meet.
Individually, senior Brianna Stoeckman added another strong performance by winning the event. Sarah Bottjen was next for the Wildcats in ninth place. They were supported by teammates Katelyn Garbe (15), Simone Raedeke (16), Katy Boyer (31) and Melinda Beyer (83).
The Chisago boys were paced by Philip Bottjen (9) and Dominick Raedeke (8) and Gus Garbe (10). They were followed by Dan Sandgren (27), Mitch Peterson, (93) and Andrew Wagner (112).
The next scheduled event for the ‘Cats was the conference meet at Trollhaugen Tuesday, January 31.
